Background

I wrote this song in 2004 or 2005 when I was 23 for my future partner who I thought I would find and have found when I was 25. You'll see why this is significant as you read the lyrics. Words have power. See the letter she wrote for me in 2006 here. We just joined forces in November of 2007.

Chorus

I love you so
And you don't even know
Can't you see me glow
Whenever you are close
I love you so
And you don't even know
Can't you hear the harp
Forever in my heart

Verse 1

I'm open to change like parking meters
But baby right now, I don't really need ya
I'm glad you showed interest
Cause interest compounds
Will you still be down
When I finally come around
Right now I'm reading the Bible
Tryna touch God like Eiffel
I got big visions I got an eye-full
I'm tryna have the finer things
And that includes a wife
I want my house to have wings
So you gotta call it fly
I got feelings for you too
But nobody knows it
My hearts used to be open
But then somebody closed it
If I don't pay you no notice
Then know that I'm focused
I secretly send you roses
When we part like Moses
From my mother I was stolen
And brought across the sea
From my rib you were molded
So from you I'll never leave
In this game of chess
The king protects the queen
What would Adam be
If he neglected Eve

Verse 2

I've been diggin you for years
I've been shoveling my fears
I did a lot of dirt in my past
Just ask my peers
I ain't perfect
One mistake and I ain't worth it
Baby I'm for certain
I won't hurt you on purpose
The doors to my heart
Are ajar like churches
This window of opportunity
Shines with no curtains
I need to be nurtured
Like that ring I purchased
You the apple in my eye
Now lets grow like orchards
Pushing you away on purpose
Has been like torture
But I had to make sure
I got my life in order
Not tryna downplay the situation
I'm tryna uplift it
Want to wait til at least twenty-five
Like Christmas
I got a lobby full of patience
But they're tired of waiting
And just for your information
I've been stopped dating
As long as this has taken
I know we gonna make it
With God as our first love
We'll never be forsaken

This world is based on cause and effect

So everything you do effects this world

You can be an agent of change for good or for bad

But remember that you reap what you sow

And whatever you fail to deal with

You children will have to deal with

Not trying to undermine God’s blueprint

Like I’m stupid

But this is how the world would be

If I could redo it

We’d all be in love

Struck by cupid

Communication with the nations

Speak every language fluent

We’d all be blind

All be kind, no racism

No prisons full of people

Full of hate in ‘em

We wouldn’t rate women

We’d blind date women

And be more careful how we treat

And what we say to ‘em

No more segregation

Brown vs. Education

Equal representation throughout the nation

Call me God’s kid, optimist, or communist

Cause I redistribute wealth to all impoverished kids

The robin hood of the hood

Take from the rich

Give to the good

Nuclear families

Instead of nuclear madness

No more tears of sadness

Cause there would be no famine

Technological advances

Think we got the answers

The ozone corrodes

Now we got mo’ cancer

Be the change you want to see

Lead by example

Stay the same

Make a change

Hey, life is a gamble

We’ll be on the moon soon

So we need to move quick

We made a house out of straw

And we need to use brick

Love from the heart is the only kind that sticks

Noah quit his arc now he’s building space ships

If I could change the world

This is how it’d be

If I’m gonna change the world

It’s gonna start with me

If I could change the world

This is how it’s be

If I’m gonna change the world

I need a world of change in me

We spend our time tryna pee nuts (It’s like we in traffic)

We always in a jam

Uncle Sam takes our bread

Eatin’ food without a brand

From the fire to the pan

And we wonder why we mad

We carry heavy bags

But they slows us on our paths (but ain’t going nowhere fast)

All this baggage got us laggin’

It won’t disappear like magic

Gotta peal layer by layer

Til we happy with no wrappin’

Rap’s the only business

That we really make a living

When I look at Pac and Biggie

All I really see is killing

The empowerment of our men

Will weed out all the coward men

They’ll have to listen

And adhere to our demands

Bout time we take a stand

Take our live back in our hands

We have to organize all the time

Not just March when we in bands

If want to realize your wished

You gotta have a plan

We sinkin’ like dirty dishes

As we stand in quick sand (foreign land)

With God as my shepherd

My job’s to be a lamb

I don’t know if you can change the world

But like Campbell’s soup I can

This is a remix I did for fun to Sean Kingston's hit song, Beautiful Girl. I wanted this to come out when he was at the top of the billboard charts, but it's all good.

I think they call it "culture jamming" when you take popular culture and make it conscious.

The video starts around 45 seconds.

I hope it inspires you.

Peace,

Chorus:
It’s such a beautiful world
That’s why we gotta stop the hurt
Our actions are suicidal, suicidal
And there’s no starting over
This is a beautiful world
There’s only one place called Earth
Our actions are suicidal, suicidal
And there’s no starting over

Verse 1:
Some say it started with an arc
When the rains came from God
All light turned to dark
And the world fell apart
Coz we all thought
That Earth’s love last forever (last forever)
Then we were young
And now we’re twenty-one
And we still don’t care
And that’s why we’re here
With all that said
We must change our act together (act together)

Refrain:
See it’s very in line
With the signs of the times
We seek things that shine
And neglect the divine
Oh Lord…
This world is driving me crazy

Chorus:
It’s such a beautiful world
That’s why we gotta stop the hurt
Our actions are suicidal, suicidal
And there’s no starting over
This is a beautiful world
There’s only one place called Earth
Our actions are suicidal, suicidal
And there’s no starting over

Verse 2:
In the back of my mind
Seeds of hope still reside
Oh I pray one day
That they all turn to vines
I put faith in God
That we can make it better (make it better)
As I plan the future out
I begin to fear and doubt
Oh this little pearl
Which I thought was my world
Was meant to be
A sight to see forever (see forever)

Refrain:
See it’s very in line
With the signs of the times
We seek things that shine
And neglect the divine
Oh Lord…
This world is driving me crazy

Chorus:
It’s such a beautiful world
That’s why we gotta stop the hurt
Our actions are suicidal, suicidal
And there’s no starting over
This is a beautiful world
There’s only one place called Earth
Our actions are suicidal, suicidal
And there’s no starting over

Verse 3:
Now we’re judging (Ga-ga-God…)
And now we’re fighting (Ga-ga-God…)
To prove to each other (Ga-ga-God…)
Who’s almighty (Ga-ga-God…)
But I don’t know (Ga-ga-God…)
Who else can change the weather (change the weather)
We hate and despise
Watch the TV tell us lies
Oh I still believe
We can change our lives
I’m freeing minds
Coz with each one we’re more clever (we’re more clever)

It’s such a beautiful world
That’s why we gotta stop the hurt
Our actions are suicidal, suicidal
And there’s no starting over

Remix by Jullien Gordon

[Verse 1]

God I’m in love with you
Don’t want to run from you
Past my adolescent stage
I am your pick of love
You are the trick to love
It seems like we bargain everyday

[Bridge]

I know I misbehaved
And I make poor mistakes
And I know I’ve got room left to grow
And though I sometimes curve
I still choose you first
Faith makes these things work
But I think I should pray for hope

[Chorus]

We're extraordinary people
And we know which way to go
Cuz we're extraordinary people
Maybe we should pave the road (pave the road oh oh ohh)
Pave the road (pave the road oh oh ohh)
This time we'll pave the road

[Verse 2]

This is my new year’s y’all
This year I’m choosing God
It’s like I’m reborn everyday
I know I’m heaven sent
God is like my seventh sense
I trust that you’ll show me the way

[Bridge]

I change up and fall
But you don’t change at all
And I feel like I just can’t stay straight
As our love advances
You give second chances
Though I lose my path
I put my faith in you and say

[Chorus]

We're extraordinary people
And we know which way to go
Cuz we're extraordinary people
Maybe we should pave the road (pave the road oh oh ohh)
Pave the road (pave the road oh oh ohh)
This time we'll pave the road

[Verse 3]

Pave the road
Maybe I’ll live and learn
No way I’ll crash and burn
Maybe I’ll stay, maybe I’ll leave,
maybe I’ll return
Maybe another night
Maybe a new insight
But maybe I’ll grow
Only you know Lord God youuuu and I

[Chorus]

We're extraordinary people
And we know which way to go
Cuz we're extraordinary people
Maybe we should pave the road (pave the road oh oh ohh)
Pave the road (pave the road oh oh ohh)
This time we'll pave the road
We're extraordinary people
And we know which way to go
Cuz we're extraordinary people
Maybe we should pave the road (pave the road oh oh ohh)
Pave the road (pave the road oh oh ohh)
This time we'll pave the road

Jullien's Purpose Statement

My purpose is to help as many people as possible reach their full potential by helping them making a living doing what they love and in the process of doing so achieve my own. I want to do this through writing, speaking, and creating offline and online spaces that facilitate conversations around purpose.
